MEDALLIST has been golden from the start! The 2009 Mid-Atlantic leading freshman sire, the son of classic winner TOUCH GOLD has become a goldmine for stakes performers. In his first three crops, he is the sire of 13 stakes horses, a phenomenal 17 percent of his starters. In 2010, he led the region’s second-crop sires by number of stakes winners. In 2011, with his first Mid-Atlantic-sired crop, MEDALLIST has three stakes horses from 10 starters! The leading runner for MEDALLIST, New York-bred champion IBBOYEE, has extended his record in 2011. A stakes winner each year from 2 to 4, IBBOYEE has earned $701,822 and is credited with a dozen stakes wins or placings in his career. Facing only stakes company since breaking his maiden in his first start at 2, IBBOYEE has won at Saratoga, Monmouth Park, Aqueduct and Finger Lakes and is four times graded stakes placed. MEDALLIST is also the sire of the ultra-consistent 2011 stakes winners BESSIE M, who has hit the board in all nine of her starts for the season, and TROPHY BOY, with three wins and a second in four starts, three in stakes. MEDALLIST proved his brilliance when he won the Withers S.-G3 in his stakes debut, then followed with a tour-de-force in the Dwyer S.-G2, blasting through fractions of :22.83, :44.45, 1:07.96 and 1:33.27 – only six 3-year-olds have run a faster mile on the dirt in history – to complete the 11/16 mi. in a stakes record 1:40.02. Another stakes record fell in the 7 fur. Kenny Noe Jr. H. at Calder, and he equaled Gulfstream Park’s 6 1/2 fur. track mark in the Deputy Minister H.-G3. A half-brother to Gr.2 winner AIR COMMANDER and graded stakes-placed Formidable, MEDALLIST is out of Gr.1-placed stakes-winning SANTARIA, a daughter of champion sprinter STAR DE NASKRA.
