04/12/2009- In his first start of 2009, Rob Ry Farm and Jayne Marie Slysz’s HEROS REWARD made a huge leap towards the $1 million milestone when taking Keeneland’s Gr. 3 Shakertown S. on April 11. With $62,000 going to the winner, HEROS REWARD now has earnings of $973,216 from 29 starts.
A 7-year-old son of PARTNER’S HERO, HEROS REWARD was named Maryland-bred Horse of the Year of 2007 and has been the state’s champion older male, turf runner and sprinter each of the past two seasons. The Shakertown victory was the sixth in a stakes, and 11th overall, for the dark bay gelding bred by Gretchen Mobberley out of the CAVEAT mare Lifes Passage.
Trainer Dale Capuano has targeted Churchill Downs’s Gr. 3 Aegon Turf Sprint on Kentucky Oaks Day, May 1, as HEROS REWARD’s next possible start.
HEROS REWARD is one of 15 stakes winners forPARTNER’S HERO, a son of DANZIG and half-brother to champion sprinter SAFELY KEPT. He has 70% winners/starters, and average earnings/starter of $53,621. Talk about a great return on a $2,500 stud fee!
