Great Notion First Time Starter Dazzles At Gulfstream
Erases Nine-Length Deficit To Win Impressively By Five Lengths
03/01/2010- It takes a horse with an impressive turn of foot to come from nine lengths back, and after being steadied when making a move at the top of the stretch, get clear and fly home late to get the victory—at 5 furlongs!
Silverton Hill LLC’s homebred 3-year-old colt HAVELOCK, a son of GREAT NOTION making the first start of his career, turned in such an effort to take a maiden special weight over the Gulfstream Park turf on Feb. 28.
Ridden patiently by Jeremy Rose in the early going, HAVELOCK turned on the afterburners in the stretch to get up for a nose victory in the field of 12. Acceleration is something that also came naturally to GREAT NOTION, who turned in one dazzling performance after another for Silverton Hill while winning or placing in five stakes from 12 starts. His efforts included a close second in the Gr. 1 King’s Bishop S. at Saratoga after setting an incredible pace. He’s passing that quickness to his offspring!
