Great Notion Yearling Brings $85,000 at Timonium

PHLASH PHELPS, a bay colt by GREAT NOTION out of the NOT FOR LOVE mare Love Me Twice, brought the hammer down for $85,000 at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Eastern Fall Yearling Sale on Monday, October 1 at Timonium.

Purchased by Rodney Jenkins for Ellen Charles’ Hillwood Stable, the Maryland-bred colt, named for radio personality Phlash Phelps, is a half-brother to multiple stakes winner and graded stakes-placed ACTION ANDY, winner of $256,470. The colt was consigned by Sally Thomas, agent, for breeder Carol Kaye.

A total of 19 yearlings by Northview sires brought more than this year’s sale average ($22,341), including those by NOT FOR LOVE (seven), JUMP START (six), TWO PUNCH (four) and SMARTY JONES (one). With an average of $36,857, NOT FOR LOVE ranked third among the sale’s leading sires (three or more sold). Topping the seven NOT FOR LOVE yearlings were two Maryland-bred colts who brought $60,000. Lambholm, agent, bought a half-brother to Concealed Identity, out of stakes winner Richetta (by Polish Numbers), consigned by Becky Davis, Inc., agent. And the second foal out of Howaya Lily (by Silver Deputy) from the family of champion Gilded Time, was purchased by Al Gold/Gene Parrotta, agent. Vinery Sales, agent III was the consignor.

A Pennsylvania-bred JUMP START colt out of Taanis (by Dayjur), from the consignment of Gum Tree Stables LLC, Dapple Stud, agent, sold for $60,000 to Richard Nicolai.
