Turf sprinter HAVELOCK returned to Keeneland, one of his favorite stomping grounds, and flew from last to first to take the Woodford S.-G3 for the second time in three years. At one point more than 10 lengths back in the five and a half-furlong turf test, he charged home to win by two lengths. It was the son of GREAT NOTION’s fifth graded stakes win, and third at the Lexington track.
HAVELOCK is one of 11 stakes horses from six crops to race for GREAT NOTION, and his richest runner to date with $619,514 in total earnings. A stakes-winning, Grade 1-placed sprinter, GREAT NOTION has a proven track record as a sire of classy sprinters, counting among them his daughter JAZZY IDEA, who twice set Laurel Park’s course record for six furlongs on the turf. And nearly half of GREAT NOTION’s stakes horses got rolling at 2, including his current juvenile daughter Jonesin for Jerry, second-place finisher of Delaware Park’s Small Wonder S. in mid-September.
GREAT NOTION has nearly 78 percent winners from starters, and his runners have average earnings of more than $65,000 - nearly 19 times his stud fee! Something to write home about!
