ColonyClub KlassyBriefcaseStks 800LION HEARTED’s daughter Colony Club, the longest price in the field at 26-1, reeled in even-money favorite Inspired to win the $61,600 Klassy Briefcase Stakes for filly and mare turf sprinters on Sunday at Monmouth Park.

A 6-year-old owned and trained by Alexandra White, Colony Club picked up her first victory since the 2011 edition of the Fort Monmouth Stakes. She got it with a change of tactics, running right behind the leader instead of dropping far off the pace.

As expected, Inspired shot right to front, looking to duplicate her pacesetting victory last month in the Fort Monmouth. And for most of the race, Inspired seemed destined to secure a second straight stakes here. In deep stretch, Colony Club surged past by a neck to pull the upset.

LION HEARTED’s progeny earnings exceeded $3 million each of the past four years, and with a five stakes winners in 2012, he’s proven to be one of the most prolific sires in the region.
