NOT FOR LOVE bookends stakes action at Laurel Park

MysticLoveNOT FOR LOVE, Maryland’s leading sire and the top 2-year-old sire in the Mid-Atlantic region in 2012, was seen top to bottom at Laurel Park on Saturday, Oct. 27. His daughter, MYSTIC LOVE, won the first stakes on the card, the historic $150,000 Selima S. for 2-year-old fillies, and Action Andy, out of NOT FOR LOVE’s daughter Love Me Twice, got up in time to take the featured $350,000 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash.

MYSTIC LOVE, campaigned by John Davison and trained by Frannie Campitelli, came from far back in the 5½-furlong Selima to sweep past her 11 rivals and score by three-quarters of a length, stopping the clock in 1:02.23. It was her second start on the grass, and her second win from three lifetime starts, pushing her career earnings total to $114,760. Bred by Dark Hollow Farm in Maryland, she is out of the Dixie Union mare Memories of Mystic.

For the second Saturday in a row, a grandson of NOT FOR LOVE came home first in the richest stakes run in the nation that day. On Oct. 20, Lucy’s Bob Boy (out of Love for Lucy, by NOT FOR LOVE), won the $500,000 West Virginia Breeders Classic S. at Charles Town. The 3-year-old has career earnings of nearly $400,000.

Action Andy surpassed the $500,000 mark when he got up to win by the slimmest of margins in the 6-furlong De Francis Memorial Dash. It was the fifth stakes win of the year for the 5-year-old son of Gators N Bears.

NOT FOR LOVE is represented by a dozen stakes horses this year, three juveniles, and progeny earnings in excess of $3.7 million. Another solid year for Maryland’s all-time leading sire!
