No stallion has dominated the Maryland Million Classic like NOT FOR LOVE! Five times in the past 10 years a son of Maryland’s all-time leading sire has taken home the day’s biggest prize, with EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH notching his second Classic score in this year’s renewal.
Sent off at 3-10, the chestnut gelding with Forest Boyce up shot away from the gate, controlled the pace and galloped home to win the $150,000 stakes by more than three lengths. Trained by Tim Keefe for owners Arnold and Sylvia Heft, EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH has an enviable record at his home track - in 29 starts at Laurel, he has 10 wins, four seconds and four thirds, and seven of his wins have come in stakes!
Bred by Dark Hollow Farm and Herringswell Stable, the 7-year-old has earned $794,585 in 44 lifetime starts. His first Maryland Million success came in the 2011 Classic, which he won by nearly two lengths.
EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH joins NOT FOR LOVE Classic winners NOT ABROAD (2012), CUBA (2008) and PRESIDENTIALAFFAIR (2004). NOT FOR LOVE extended his lead as Maryland Million’s all-time leader - he has 28 Maryland Million wins, all coming since 2002.
