Fort-Larned-1FORT LARNED, a grand-looking son of E DUBAI, got his first stakes victory in near track record time in the $60,000 Challenger Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday, March 3.

Janis R. Whitham’s 4-year-old homebred turned back a determined Wiki in the stretch run of the mile and a sixteenth test and hit the wire a length and a quarter in front, finishing in a sensational 1:42.93, only a tenth of a second off the stakes and track record.

A multiple allowance winner at 3, the Ian Wilkes-trained FORT LARNED has earned $121,331 in a dozen starts. Out of the Broad Brush mare Arlucea, he is a grandson of the great racemare Bayakoa (Arg).

E DUBAI has sired 26 stakes winners in his first six crops to race and has an impressive 16 percent stakes horses from starters. He was the leading sire in the Northeast in 2011 by number of stakes winners, with nine, and was had 22 stakes horses for the year. Among his top runners are champion Once More Dubai, Godolphin Mile-G2 winner Skysurfers and San Pasqual S.-G2 winner Aggie Engineer.
