My Gi Gi ti1 72In a thrilling finish, E DUBAI’s daughter MY GI GI won Hollywood Park’s $150,000 Honeymoon H.-G2 on Saturday, June 9 in a photo finish over 1-2 favorite Lady of Shamrock. It was the first stakes win for the 3-year-old filly owned by Dennis Conner, Lloyd DeBruycker and Wade Jacobsen.

Given a great ride by Rafael Bejarano, MY GI GI got the jump on the favorite around the far turn and outdueled her to the wire while completing the mile and an eighth over the firm turf in 1:49.22. Noted Bejarano, “I think she is going to improve off this race.”

MY GI GI was second by a nose in the Senorita S.-G3 in May in her only other start of the year. Stakes-placed in her second career start at 2, she finished fourth in the 2011 Oak Leaf S.-G1. Her record now stands at two wins and two seconds from seven starts, for earnings of $157,540.

“I thought she was going into this race a little on the aggressive side,” said trainer Peter Eurton. “But she was real relaxed and I hope she keeps improving with age. She can fill out and has every opportunity to be better than that.” MY GI GI is out of the stakes-winning and Group 1 Epsom Oaks-placed Sadler’s Wells mare Relish the Thought (Ire).

E DUBAI ranks as the Mid-Atlantic region’s leading sire of 2012 with progeny earnings fast approaching $2 million. Both his stakes winners this year are graded winners, as he is also the sire of Skip Away S.-G3 winner FORT LARNED!
