Freshman Sire Fairbanks Gets First Winner

GoldenHeartCity 09-17-12 001FAIRBANKS, who took the region by storm when he entered stud at Northview PA in 2009, got his first winner in his first crop with GOLDEN HEART CITY’s victory at Parx Racing on Monday, Sept. 17. The bay 2-year-old filly pushed the early leader in the six-furlong maiden race before drawing clear late to win by a length and a quarter on the main track; it was another 15 lengths back to the third place finisher!

Bred in Pennsylvania by Michael Rainier out of the Forty Niner mare Option Contract, GOLDEN HEART CITY, a May 29 foal, earned $28,520 for owner CJZ Racing Stable.

FAIRBANKS is the leading freshman sire in the Mid-Atlantic region with progeny earnings of nearly $82,000. The son of Giant’s Causeway, unraced at 2, proved a monster when the races got longer, getting six wins, all at distances greater than a mile, including the 1 1/4-mile Hawthorne Gold Cup Handicap-G2 and 1 1/8-mile Tokyo City Handicap-G3. His average winning margin was more than four and a half lengths. Also Grade 1 stakes-placed, FAIRBANKS earned $879,768 during his career.
