JUST CALL KENNY, making his third career start and first in stakes company when an allowance race didn’t fill, produced a spectacular rally to capture the $100,000 Spectacular Bid S. going away at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, Jan. 4. The 3-year-old son of JUMP START, totally overlooked at nearly 20-1 in the field of six, scored by two and a quarter lengths while stopping the clock in 1:10.58 for six furlongs.
Breaking slowly and well back while last in the early going under Joe Bravo, JUST CALL KENNY shot to the front with a powerful move along the rail, flying past graded stakes horses Corfu, Hollywood Talent and hot prospects Trail Blaze and C. Zee. “This horse has really had a lot of talent all along,” said Bravo.
Trained by Patrick McBurney for ABL Stable, Bossone, Cahill, Donnely and Phantom House Farm, JUST CALL KENNY recorded his second win after taking his debut last August at Monmouth Park by three lengths. He was bred in Virginia by Althea Richards out of the Green Dancer mare Green Jeans.
JUST CALL KENNY is the second stakes winner from JUMP START’s first Pennsylvania-sired crop, joining graded stakes-winning juvenile MISS BEHAVIOUR. Among the region’s most powerful sires, JUMP START is the sire of 67 stakes horses, with two in the first days of 2014, as his 3-year-old daughter Jump Two rallied to finish second in Laurel Park’s Marshua S. on Jan. 4 in only her second start!
