Jump Start’s Pants On Fire Skips Away at the Shore

PantsOnFire SkipAwayStks 800Getting his first stakes win of the year, and moving ever closer to the $1 million earnings mark, PANTS ON FIRE captured Monmouth Park’s $75,000 Skip Away S. on Saturday, May 26 by a length over Norman Asbjornson. The George and Lori Hall colorbearer saved ground in midpack of the six-horse field before assuming command at the head of the stretch. Sent off as the 2-5 favorite, he completed the mile and a sixteenth in 1:43.56.

“He broke well from the gate, but when the dirt started hitting him in the face, he didn’t really like it,” said winning jockey Paco Lopez. “Around the five-eighths pole I made a little move and then ran into traffic around the three-eighths. I was able to find a little hole and he ran right through. He was the best horse in the race. I knew the second horse was coming, but he was never going to get by us.”

Winning trainer Kelly Breen noted: “We’ll look at the Monmouth Cup (Gr. 2 on July 7 at one mile). It’s our home track and the Halls support Monmouth Park, so that’s likely our next start.”

By getting his fifth career win, PANTS ON FIRE boosted his earnings total to $933,060 from 15 starts. Last year at 3, he won the Louisiana Derby-G2 and Pegasus S-G3 and placed in two graded races.

JUMP START is currently the leading sire in the Mid-Atlantic region with progeny earnings of nearly $1.7 million. His five stakes winners this year also include Gr. 3 Count Fleet H. winner OUTTA TUNE and NORTH FREEWAY, who got her first stakes win two weeks ago at Delaware Park.
