The 2-year-old filly SILVER VALLEY made quite an impression on trainer Ron Moquett when winning her debut at Lone Star Park on May 25 by nearly five lengths, so much so that Moquett purchased her for Bowman Racing immediately after that race. Travelling the county, the bay daughter of SILVER TRAIN, making her fourth start at her fourth different track, proved her talent once again when taking the six-furlong $100,000 Mountaineer Juvenile Fillies S. by four lengths on Aug. 3 for her first stakes win.
The co-favorite in the field of nine on Mountaineer's signature day, SILVER VALLEY prompted the pace before drawing off through the stretch. It was a virtual replay of her maiden score, and pushed her career earnings to $82,609. Sandwiched in between were stakes runs at Churchill Downs and Saratoga.
Earlier in the day, trainer Dale Romans unleashed SILVER TRAIN juvenile Cee 'n O at Ellis Park, and the bay colt drew off to win by four and a half lengths in his debut. The homebred for McKee Stables Inc. went off as the favorite in the six-furlong maiden special weight.
SILVER TRAIN has ranked among the top sires of juveniles in the region for three straight years, and was a top-10 freshman sire nationally in 2010. More than half of his dozen stakes winners got the job done at 2, including LADY OIL, champion 2-year-old filly in Panama, Italian juvenile SILVER OCEAN (a future European champion)and Gr.2 Mexican winner GUARAGUAU.
