Going Global – SILVER TRAIN Runners Travel the World

Beautiful-Sunday-July-4-2012-e1342202692848The career of SILVER TRAIN’s 4-year-old son SILVER OCEAN is spanning the globe. His most recent score came at Taby, outside of Stockholm, in the featured Swedish Open Mile over the turf on Saturday, July 14. The even-money favorite in the field of eight, the Norwegian wonder raced with the front pack and had enough to turn back the challenge of Tertullus to gain his fourth victory by a neck.

“I was always convinced that I had the best horse in the field,’ said his trainer, Niels Petersen, who has sent out his charge to win stakes in Italy (the Criterium di Pisa at 2 and the Premio Pisa at 3), and to hit the board in races in England, France and Dubai. From 20 starts over three seasons, SILVER OCEAN has approximately $250,000 in international earnings.

On the evening of Friday, July 13, SILVER TRAIN’s 4-year-old daughter BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY got her second consecutive win, with a lot of miles in between. The former California-based runner was sent to Macau between her maiden special score at Santa Anita in April 2011 and her debut in the European colony of China at the Macau Jockey Club.

The only filly in the 14-horse field, the dark bay bested the boys with a frontrunning score in the dirt sprint at about 51⁄2 furlongs, drawing off to win by 41⁄2 lengths in 1:01.70, just .10 off the track record. In six career starts, the filly out of international runner Viapervita (Ire) has never been off the board.

SILVER TRAIN has $1.74 million in 2012 international progeny earnings through mid-July, ranking 11th among the nation’s third-crop sires. Other runners for the year include stakes-winning ZETTERHOLM, who finished fourth in the Preakness S.-G1, and J J’S LUCKY TRAIN, who has won or placed in eight stakes in his 15-start career, to earn more than $400,000.
