SMARTY JONES is the leading 2012 stakes sire in the Northeast with FRANCOIS’ score

Francois-F800In his stakes debut, SMARTY JONES’ 3-year-old son FRANCOIS edged away for a half-length victory in Arlington Park’s Straight Line S., the first race on the track’s signature Arlington Million card. It was FRANCOIS’ fourth win from eight starts in 2012 and pushed his earnings just shy of six figures. FRANCOIS becomes SMARTY JONES’ seventh stakes winner of the year, and 16th overall (in his first four crops).

Owned by Kenneth E. Fishbein and trained by Charles Bettis, FRANCOIS has quickly risen through the ranks, from claimer in mid-July to stakes winner in mid-August. He is one of five sophomore stakes winners for SMARTY JONES this year, joining multiple Group 1 winner SMART D N A, recent La Jolla H.-G2 winner OLD TIME HOCKEY and ISN’T HE CLEVER, DEVIL IN DISGUISE and I’LL SHOW THEM.

With more than $3 million in progeny earnings for the year, SMARTY JONES is having another sensational year. He ranked first in the Northeast last year, with more than $5.5 million in earnings, and was 32nd in the nation. He is currently second in the standings for 2012 and has three stakes winners in the month of August!
