SMARTY JONES Singapore sensation BETTER LIFE is better than ever!

Better Life 260413BETTER LIFE, the 2012 champion miler and stayer in Singapore, has returned with a flourish, taking the Group 2 Queen Elizabeth II Cup on Friday, April 26, her third group win in her past four starts.  BETTER LIFE is one of nine group/graded winners from the first five crops for SMARTY JONES, which account for nearly half of his 20 total stakes winners.

The 4-year-old Australian-bred daughter of SMARTY JONES pushed her career earnings past the million-dollar mark with her seventh win in a dozen career starts.

Suzuka Racing Stable’s flashy chestnut filly, guided by regular rider Alan Munro, had to overcome a slow pace and a five-wide trip on the turn into the stretch to take the mile and a quarter Queen Elizabeth. She asserted her superiority in deep stretch over Singapore’s turf course to win by a length and a quarter in 2:03.13.

Trainer Hideyuki Takaoka noted that BETTER LIFE is better at the 2000 meters (approximately a mile and a quarter) than the 1800 meters she ran in her first start off a five-month break three weeks earlier, when finishing third in the JBBA Moonbeam Vase-G3. BETTER LIFE’s next target is Singapore’s richest international race, the $3 million Singapore Airlines International Cup-G1, over 2000 meters on May 19. “She was about 98% fit for tonight’s race and will be at her top for the SIA Cup,” Takaoka told the Singapore Turf Club. “She has come back to racing this time in very good shape.”

Out of the Sunday Silence mare Quiet Life, BETTER LIFE captured the Group 1 Longines Singapore Gold Cup and the Group 1 Kranji Mile last fall.
