RES JUDICATA eighth stakes winner of year for SMARTY JONES

YouTubePhotosResDoing his best impression of his famous daddy SMARTY JONES, Pennsylvania-bred RES JUDICATA burst away from the field and charged home to win the City of Laurel S. at Laurel Park by more than four lengths on Saturday, November 9 - 10 years to the day of SMARTY JONES’ first win. The score was the first in a stakes this year for the chestnut 3-year-old, one of SMARTY JONES’ eight stakes winners this year.

Carrying the famous blue and white silks of Patricia Chapman’s Someday Farm, RES JUDICATA is a homebred for his owner, as was his sire and first two dams. RES JUDICATA is trained by John Servis, who choreographed the sensational classic campaign of SMARTY JONES, which began a decade ago at Philadelphia Park. SMARTY JONES burst on the scene as a juvenile with a widening seven and three-quarter-length maiden win, and followed a few weeks later with a 15-length tour-de-force in the Pennsylvania Nursery. Those two races launched an eight-race win streak (seven stakes) that would include the Kentucky Derby-G1 and Preakness Stakes-G1.

SMARTY JONES is now among Pennsylvania’s leading sires. His progeny earnings have surpassed $3 million each of the past four years, and half his 22 stakes winners are graded winners. His average earnings per runner is a sensational $85,000-plus, and 78 percent of his starters are winners. And that’s just in his first six crops. Incredible numbers - both on the race track and as a stallion. The hallmark of SMARTY JONES!
