YouTubePhotos DeclassifyTriple Crown nominee DECLASSIFY made a strong statement in his debut at Santa Anita on Saturday, April 6, as the 2-5 favorite took control of the race after a half mile in :44.83 and drew off by an eye-popping 11 1/2 lengths while completing six furlongs in 1:08.83. Kaleem Shah Inc.'s 3-year-old son of ORIENTATE had been working steadily and turning in strong works coming into the race for trainer Bob Baffert.

The dark bay colt out of the Tale of the Cat mare Mir Cat is from the family of Grade 1 winners Marsh Side, Changeintheweather, A Phenomenon, Seattle Meteor and champion Pleasant Stage. He was sold by Eddie Woods a year ago at OBS in April, bringing $450,000, the third-highest price of the mammoth sale. Declassify had been overlooked as a weanling at Keeneland in 2010 (an $8,500 RNA), and sold as a yearling at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October sale for $17,000.
