The fastest of Bernardini’s sons to retire to stud, BUFFUM will stand the 2014 season at Northview Stallion Station in Chesapeake City, Md. A million-dollar sales yearling, 5-year-old BUFFUM hails from the incredible speed family of champion sprinters Gold Beauty and Dayjur. His stud fee has been set at $3,500.
“Buffum was pure class. He had so much natural speed and is the fastest Bernardini I have ever trained,” commented trainer Tom Albertrani.
Retired sound from racing, BUFFUM won Belmont Park’s Bold Ruler Handicap-G3 going gate-to-wire while completing seven furlongs in 1:21.68. A winner in his debut at 2, a Belmont Park maiden special weight at one mile, he recorded three triple-digit Beyer figures during a career of four wins and a second in 11 starts, earning $261,550.
A member of one of racing’s most dynamic families, BUFFUM is out of stakes-winning Storm Beauty, a Storm Cat half-sister to champion sprinter Gold Beauty and the dam of six sales yearlings sold for an average of more than $650,000. Purchased at Saratoga for $1.2 million by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, BUFFUM is a half-brother to multiple stakes winner and graded stakes-placed Stormy West and stakes-placed runners Value Stream and Renaissance Lady. Found under his second dam, stakes winner Stick to Beauty, is Hall of Famer Sky Beauty, Grade 1-winning millionaires Point of Entry, Tale of Ekati and Pleasant Home, Saratoga Grade 1 winners Maplejinsky and Pine Island, and dozens of other stakes winners.
BUFFUM will be available for inspection at Northview Stallion Station beginning November 18th.
