GREAT NOTION filly JAZZY IDEA swings on Belmont turf

Jazzy Idea2GREAT NOTION’s 3-year-old daughter JAZZY IDEA shipped to New York for the $85,000 Thirty Flags S. on May 2 and showed her heels to seven other fillies, drawing off to win by four lengths.

Bred, owned and trained by Edwin Merryman, the dark bay filly was overlooked at 6-1 odds, but had never been worse than fourth in her previous eight starts. Rider Jose Lezcano held her back early in the six-furlong Thirty Flags, unleashed her as they entered the stretch, and it was just a matter of how much she’d win by as she cruised home over the yielding turf.

Last year at 2, JAZZY IDEA won twice and finished second twice, and placed fourth in her two starts in stakes company. In her race prior to her New York trip, JAZZY IDEA defeated older runners in allowance company at five furlongs on the Pimlico turf on April 20. She has now earned $135,030. The SILVER TRAINs keep rolling along!

Take-The-Train-finSILVER TRAIN, the Mid-Atlantic region’s leading third-crop sire and ranked third in the nation (among third-crop sires) by number of winners, had four consecutive starters score victories within a 24-hour period.

Juvenile filly Take the Train, in her second start, wired the field at 52-1 odds at Pimlico on April 29. The RNR Stable runner trained by Lori Testerman was quick from the gate in the four and a half-furlong race on the main track, scooted away and was never seriously challenged to win by nearly two lengths.

Big Lick Farm’s 3-year-old filly Ubu displayed her talent for the turf at Tampa Bay Downs less than an hour later. The Reid Nagle trainee rolled home four and a half lengths on top in the mile and a sixteenth maiden special weight.

Sylvia E. Heft’s Northern Train got the job done going six furlongs on the dirt at Pimlico on April 28. The 3-year-old filly trained by Tim Keefe went off as favorite and ran that way, taking command a furlong out and holding off all challengers. And getting her second career win on the evening of April 28 was Needsomeluckstables LLC’s Golden Express. Add a comment Add a comment
